Snow Hill:
The
central focus of Winter WOW JAM activities! 100 tons of snow will
provide for five sled runs for fun in the snow in the inner city!
You can assist in this area at one of the five sled
runs, assisting children and families to line up and sled down the
hill, or to help those who come down to get back up again.
Snow Play Area: Another feature of
the Winter WOW JAM is to provide a play area where kids and families
can "just play in the snow." They can build snowmen, make snow
"angels," snow balls, etc.
Volunteers in this area will help to keep
things fun and safe, and make sure there is enough space to play for
those in the area by helping with the lines.
Chili (Food Booth): This
will be a BIG draw, as there will be hot chili for everyone who comes!
We'll need workers to help prepare the food and to pass it out to those
who come; also, to work with lines.
Hot Chocolate Booth:
This
is ANOTHER big draw, as almost everyone will want a cup (or more) of
hot chocolate! We're praying for a bit of cold weather which will help
make the day even more festive.
Volunteers in this booth will help prepare and hand out the hot chocolate and to help with lines.
Photo Booths:
What
a fun place to serve! We'll have three locations with Winter Themes,
including Santa on a Sleigh, A Christmas Tree, and another one with a
festive backdrop. Families will have their photos taken and will be
able to pick them up right away.
Volunteers will help the photographers by
signing in the people, assisting with printers and delivering the
"finished" photo to the families. Also helping with lines and being
supportive of the people who are waiting.
Flyer Distribution:
We
need as many people possible to come out and canvass the neighborhoods
where the Winter WOW JAM will be held! On Wednesday, Thursday, and
Friday evenings, (November 29, 30, and December 1), we're all meeting
at Christian Family Center at 325 S. Azusa Avenue in Azusa at 7 p.m. to
go caroling, hand our flyers, candy, and follow the big
Christmas-lighted and decorated
WOW truck.
Invite family and friends to this wonderful outreach to the surrounding neighborhoods.
Hayride:
We're going to have horse-drawn
hayrides around the perimeter of the Winter WOW JAM! We know the lines
will be long for this fun event for children and families.
Volunteers for this will be helping people to line up, get in the carriage and, when they return, to help them down.
Trackless Train Ride:
Children
will be able to take an actual little train ride in a special section
of the Winter WOW JAM. Decorated for Christmas, the train will be
festive and fun.
Volunteers for this outreach will help with lines; help people get on and off the ride, and assist with the huge crowd control.
Face Painting:
We'll
paint hundreds of faces during our Winter WOW JAM! If you enjoy working
with children and are skilled in painting a face - come on out! We use
special "face-painting" crayons; and it is easy and fun as children
light up with the joy of "looking special!"
Ticket Booth:
Everyone
who comes will be given two diferent free tickets. (One for winning
prizes from the WOW truck, and one to win a Christmas Tree.) This is a
VERY BUSY booth, as everyone comes to this one. In fact, we know people
will begin lining up even before the Winter WOW JAM officially opens at
1 p.m.
Volunteers here will be some of the FIRST
people to greet our guests. Lots of warmth, joy, and grace are needed
as we welcome everyone to this Winter WOW JAM Wonderland!
Registration Booth:
This booth is for the purpose of
helping our volunteers (such as yourself!) to sign in. We keep a
listing of all who come out to serve and, later, send out newsletters
to those who worked so hard.
Volunteers at this booth will need to help
people sign in (name, address, phone number) and, then, to be assigned
to an area to work for the day.
Parking Lot Attendants:
Those who serve in this area will assist people to find their
parking space, direct the guests to the Front Gate, and tell them about
getting their free tickets at the Ticket Booth.
Volunteers here will actually be the VERY FIRST
greeters to those who come and the last greeters as people leave. They
will also keep an eye on the cars and on safety issues with lots of
children and families in the parking lot.
Front Gate Workers:
Those who serve in this are will be the official
"Welcome" Team, giving people a sense of expectation and wonder as they
enter this WOW JAM Winter Wonderland.
Volunteers in this area will help to direct people to go FIRST to
the Ticket Booth to get their free tickets for the prizes and trees.
We'll need people at this location from the very beginning to the very
end.
Nativity Scene:
The CENTRAL
FOCUS and purpose for it all! We'll have teams of people who will serve
as Joseph and Mary, the Shepherds, the Wise Men, and others to assist
with lines of people wanting to see (there will be live animals, too!)
Volunteers are needed to help with line
control, to talk with people about the meaning of this scene - that
this is the real meaning of Christmas - that Jesus came to earth for
EACH OF US!
Disney Sketching Booth:
John
Pomeroy began this booth 3 years ago when he came out and began
sketching Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and many more
Disney Characters!
Volunteers in this booth help with line
control, assist with putting the drawings in the frames, and handing
the finished gift out to the people. This is one of our longest
lines at ALL of the WOW JAMS.
Christmas Tree Give-Away:
We
are giving away 90, 6' Christmas Trees (more if more are donated!).
When a person wins a Christmas Tree they will come over to the Tree
Give-Away area.
Workers here will help by handling the
trees, checking the winning ticket, and assisting families to their car
with the tree (if they came in a vehicle).
Christmas Presents Give-Away:
A wrapped Christmas Gift will be given to every
child (12 and under) who comes to the Winter WOW JAM. We'll have
pre-designated bins where "Boy" or "Girl" and ages will be
specified. When they pick up their gift, their hand will then be
stamped by one of the workers, indicating they picked up their present.
In some cases, parents will need to pick up the gift (for children too
young to come forward on their own.)
Volunteers in this tent will need to work
quickly, with lots of joy and warmth. Whenever something free is
offered, people tend to "press in," so crowd and line control will be
very important. It will be important to make eye contact with each who
receives a gift so that the love of Jesus is the BIGGEST gift they see!
ALTAR TEAM:
Everyone who volunteers is invited and needed!
You'll be asked to come forward to the WOW truck when Stephen gives the
Altar Call so that you can stand next to a person(s) who receive Jesus
at this Winter WOW JAM! You'll help by praying with the people in your
circle, assisting them to fill out the Salvation Cards, and handing out
their gift Bibles. This opportunity will bring you the greatest joy you
could ever imagine - knowing that you helped someone come to Jesus this
Christmas! All you have to do, is take Stephen's lead from the truck,
and allow the Holy Spirit to touch others with the love of God!
